Health ScreeningsVision Screenings: Vision screenings, are performed on all first, third, fifth, and seventh grade students as well as any new student to the district. If a student fails this screening, a referral letter is mailed home to the parent(s).Hearing Screenings: In the fall, hearing is screened on all students in kindergarten and first grade, as well as any new students or teacher referrals. If a student fails his/her initial hearing screening, the student’s hearing is rescreened a couple of weeks later. If at this time, the student fails the hearing screening, they are referred to the audiologist. The audiologist will then come to our school and do a screening. If the audiologist has concerns, she will send a letter to the parent(s).Dental Screenings: A visual screening of third graders' teeth is performed by a local dentist. This screening usually takes place in December. If the dentist notices any dental concern, a note is sent home with the student.Scoliosis Screenings: Scoliosis screenings are performed on all fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students. Scoliosis is an abnormal curvature of the spine which if left untreated may cause heart, lung and back pain. Scoliosis is believed to occur during growth spurts such as puberty. If any signs of scoliosis are noted during the screening and rescreening, a letter is sent home to the parents.
