About Me:

Mrs. B
  •  Hello.

My name is Mrs. Berg, or “Mrs. B”. I will be teaching your child in the Read-180 curriculum this year!

A little about me you may like to know:

I am married and live in Helena. I love to read, oil-paint and ice-skate. New to EVMS this year, I am excited to help students increase their reading/writing capacities! I hold my degree in elementary education, k-8 from Western Governor's University.  I chose education because I want to see students achieve everything they are capable of! As a student myself, I was very interested in language and writing, an interest which bloomed in my middle school years. This love of the written language and my own experiences in middle school led me to seek a job teaching in the middle grades.  Through the Read-180 curriculum, I hope to help students who are struggling with their reading skills to build strategies that will improve and sustain their reading ability overall. I also hope to inspire some to fall in love with readling, as I did, so they can experience the full and authentic power of the written word. A core belief I hold as an educator is: every person is intrinsically valuable and capable of amazing things!

“If I have the belief that I can do it, I shall surely acquire the capacity to do it even if I may not have it at the beginning.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Read-180: What is it?

  • Read-180 is a course comprised of primarily reading and writing skills that will benefit your child in their overall reading ability. This course is designed to progress at individual students’ paces and engage students where they are at. Texts are real world applicable in their content and structured to show how reading and writing skills are useful and relevant to our everyday lives. Some skills we will work on in Read-180 are:

    • Comprehension: What, exactly, is the text telling me and why?

    • Context clues: If I am unsure of what I am reading, how can I use clues and established patterns of language to figure it out?

    • Increased Vocabulary: The more words I know and can use, the better I will learn!

    • Writing Skills: I can learn to write using complete ideas, clear language, and good form to express my opinions and show the evidence of my learning. I can learn how to write in narrative, argumentative, and informative styles.

    • Increased Fluency: I can learn how to read quickly and accurately. I can improve my pacing and understanding while I read.
