Kinder Cubs is an age exception kindergarten program for 4-year-olds. Students accepted into Kinder Cubs attend school during the same hours and days as all Eastgate Kindergarten students. The school day and program are designed to address kindergarten skills and standards.
Eligibility and acceptance are determined by the EHPS Board of Trustees. Students who reside in the EHPS district are given priority. The student must be 4 years old on or before September 10 of the school year of enrollment. Students who are accepted into Kinder Cubs will technically be enrolled in kindergarten for two years: one year of Kinder Cubs and one year of Kindergarten.
Factors of consideration include:
1. Income: families that meet the income eligibility guidelines for free or reduced-price meals
under the National School Lunch Program will be given first consideration.
2. Enrolled member of a federally recognized American Indian Tribe or member of a minority group.
3. Limited English Proficient within the meaning of Title III of the Federal Elementary and
Secondary Education Act.
4. Students on an IEP.
All public school students are required to provide proof of immunizations, residence (utility bill), and a certified copy of the child's birth certificate. These documents will need to be provided IF your child is accepted into the program.
Kinder Cubs is designed to be a high-quality, developmentally appropriate learning environment. It is led by a certified teacher and supported by paraprofessionals working together to address learning standards: emotional, social, physical, communication, and cognition. Families are key partners in this process. Kinder Cubs will offer home visits and periodic family activities to build strong, trusting relationships between home and school.
